A tourist who drove on the wrong side of the road in Dunlewey causing a head-on collision has been fined and put off the road for two years.

Gasper Rojc was only in Ireland for two days when the accident occurred last week.

Rojc, a Slovenian national, was driving a hired car at Altan, Dunlewey on February 17, 2026 when the incident occurred.

He attempted to overtake another car and after he did so he failed to return to the correct side of the road, went around a blind bend and caused a head-on collision with another vehicle.

Rojc, aged 33, appeared at Letterkenny District Court where he was charged with dangerous driving.

Garda Michael McElroy gave evidence of the incident.

He told how Rosc had suffered the most injuries as a result of the crash.

The accused sat in the court and appeared to be heavily bandaged as a result of the crash.

Garda McElroy said he spoke to Rosc who said he normally drove on the right hand side of the road in his country but forgot to return to the other side of the road on this occasion.

The court heard that the damage to the cars was being dealt with through insurance companies.

Judge Ciaran Liddy found the accused guilty, fined him €150 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
