Matthew Broderick’s sister to be officially welcomed as new Donegal church minister

The sister of Hollywood actor Matthew Broderick is to be officially welcomed as a new Church of Ireland minister in south-west Donegal this week.

Reverend Janet Broderick, sister in law of Sex and the City star Sarah Jesscia Parker, has been appointed minister in charge of the Ardara group of parishes.

A service of introduction for Reverend Broderick will take place at Inniskeel Parish Church in Portnoo on Friday, March 6 at 8pm.

Reverend Broderick is of course no stranger to the area as her family have had a holiday home near Kilcar for decades and she, her famous brother and his wife and family, have been regular visitors over the years.

The Broderick’s parents, Patricia and James, fell in love with the area on a visit and went on to buy a house near Kilcar, where they brought their two children for summer holidays.

She is taking up the role of priest-in-charge of a group of parishes which includes Ardara, Glencolumbcille, Glenties, Inniskeel and Lettermacaward.

Ordained to the priesthood in 1990, she has previously served in parishes the US in places including New York, New Jersey and Beverly Hills.

Announcing her arrival in January, parishioners posted: “We are so excited for her to be leading us in our next chapter of worship and fellowship.”
