Walking Football offers a supportive space where everyone is encouraged, valued and included — regardless of background or previous experience

Letterkenny Community Centre Walking Football is designed to keep men and women aged 40+ active, connected and involved in the game they love.

We know there are many reasons why people may no longer be able to play traditional football — injury, fitness levels, time away from the sport, or simply feeling it’s “not for them anymore.” Walking Football offers a safe and enjoyable way to return to the pitch, bringing physical, mental and social benefits in equal measure.

The game has specific rules that outlaw running and allow no physical contact between players. Teams are five or six-a-side, and matches are played at a slower pace on our state-of-the-art 3G artificial grass pitch at Pearse Road. This reduces the risk of strain or injury, while still providing a great cardiovascular workout and plenty of friendly competition.

But Walking Football is about much more than the game itself. For those living alone, recently retired, new to the area, or feeling socially isolated, this programme provides a valuable opportunity to connect with others in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Regular participation can help reduce loneliness, boost confidence and improve overall mental wellbeing. The simple act of showing up, being part of a team and sharing a laugh can make a real difference.

Sport is increasingly recognised as a powerful tool for social inclusion, helping people build friendships, strengthen community ties and improve mental health. Walking Football offers a supportive space where everyone is encouraged, valued and included — regardless of background or previous experience.

Whether you played football all your life or have never kicked a ball before, you are welcome here. To book call Donnan on 0863452457 or contact reception on 0749122761.
