Cllr Bradley said the time has long since passed for permanent safety works to be carried out on the Aghilly Road.
County Councillor Fionán Bradley has welcomed confirmation that an application has been submitted under the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) to complete the Aghilly Road project in Buncrana.
The Fianna Fail Councillor and Leas Cathaoirleach of Inishowen MD said he knows at first-hand from contact with many constituents who live in the Ardaravan, Aghilly, Clonglash, Hillhead and Milltown areas, just how dangerous the road is, particularly for pedestrians.
Cllr Bradley explained: “There is no safe way for people who live in these areas to walk into the town. To that end, I am delighted to confirm that an application for funding has been made under the HIIF to complete the Aghilly Road.”
The South Inishowen Councillor said temporary works were completed over a decade ago, but the time has long since passed for permanent works to be carried out on the road.
The new Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund, announced under Delivering Homes, Building Communities 2025-2030, is to support the investment in public infrastructure needed to unlock the development of housing sites on residential zoned lands.

The new Housing Activation Office administers the fund, and they have advised that further calls will follow for public infrastructure projects that are not deemed to be ‘shovel-ready’.
Cllr Bradley already has one such project in mind.
“I will continue to press the Road Design Office in Donegal County Council to ensure that the Buncrana Inner Relief Road project, as the number one priority in the Inishowen MD and the single most important infrastructure project in the county after the TEN T project, is prioritised and that funding will be applied for under this fund in any future calls,” he pledged.
