A group of Donegal men have raised €41,685 for North West STOP-Suicide Prevention by completing a 3,000km drive.

Declan Boyle, Stephen Molloy, Paul Quinn, Conor Quinn, Liam McGeehan, Connell McDevitt, James McDyre and Ryan Hunter undertook the three-day drive from Glenties to the world-famous Nürburgring motorsports complex, raising funds for charity.

“We are delighted to announce the handover of a cheque for €41,685 to North West STOP, following an incredible fundraising journey undertaken by our team,” Declan posted. “The challenge saw participants travel over 3,000 kilometres from Glenties, Donegal, to the world-famous Nürburgring track in Germany and back. All within a single weekend, driving three older Toyotas.”

Declan, who organised the challenge, said he wanted to raise awareness for mental health while also remembering his dear friend Kevin Quinn, who passed away in 2021. An avid motorsports enthusiast, Declan chose Nürburgring for the destination as it boasts a 20.832km racetrack.

“This remarkable effort was supported by an outpouring of generosity from our sponsors, supporters, and community,” he continued. “Their contributions made this achievement possible and will directly support the invaluable work carried out by North West STOP Suicide in providing free, confidential counselling and mental health support to individuals and families across the northwest.

“At a time when mental health challenges continue to affect so many people, the services offered by North West STOP are a vital lifeline. The funds raised will help ensure that more people can access the support they need, when they need it most, without waiting lists or barriers.

“We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who donated, encouraged, or participated in any way. This result demonstrates the incredible power of community spirit and shared purpose. Our dear friend Kevin will be remembered for quite some time after this achievement in his memory.”

North West STOP operates across Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, West Cavan and North Mayo, providing free counselling services to people of all ages.
