Gardaí in Donegal Division investigating the murder of Denis Donaldson have today arrested a male following his extradition from Scotland on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.
The male, aged in his late 40s, will appear before the Special Criminal Court this afternoon. The arrest was carried out with the assistance of An Garda Síochána Extradition Unit, Garda National Bureau of Investigation and the Irish Air Corps.
Donaldson, 56, was murdered on April 4, 2006, at a remote cottage at Cloghercor, Doochary in a killing claimed by the Real IRA, with the case remaining unsolved. The Belfast man had admitted, just months before the killing that he had been a British spy at the very heart of the republican movement for 20 years.
