Public order offences rise but theft down in 2025 in Glenties MD

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has released data which shows that public order and driving offences rose in the Glenties Municipal District in the last calendar year. 

Despite the rise of public order and driving offences in 2025 in the Glenties MD, the area saw a decrease in other crime categories, such as attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassment and related offences, dangerous and negligent acts, theft, and damage to property and the environment.

Garda Stations that were included in the statistics include Ardara, Bunbeg, Burtonport, Clogher, Creeslough, Dunfanaghy, Dungloe, Falcarragh, and Glenties.

Public order offences in the Glenties MD increased by 21% from 2024 to 2025, with 62 offences in 2024 compared to 75 offences in 2025. The areas with the highest amount of public order were Bunbeg and Dungloe, with 17 offences each.

Driving offences also increased, with 112 offences in 2023, 127 offences in 2024, and 133 offences in 2025, meaning there was an 18.75% increase in driving offences in the Glenties MD from 2023 to 2025.

However, from 2024 to 2025, there was a 17.4% decrease in theft offences, and a reduction of 7.5% of offences of dangerous or negligent acts.

The number of attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassment and related offences also reduced by 8.6% in 2025 in the Glenties MD.
