Before and after shots of Tir Conaill Park
Four Masters GAA have announced the launch of ‘Pedal for the Pitch’, a 100km charity cycle to raise funds for significant drainage and surface improvement works at Tír Conaill Park.
The flagship fundraiser will see almost 50 cyclists from across the local community come together to complete a 100km route from the Four Masters grounds to Manorhamilton and back again, on Sunday, May 10. The collective efforts aim to generate the funds required for the much-needed works on the pitch.
Grass pitches typically have a lifespan of approximately 20 years, and the main pitch at Tír Conaill Park has reached that critical point. The surface requires essential drainage improvements to ensure it remains playable, safe, and fit-for-purpose for all who rely on it.
Each year, up to 42 teams across football and hurling use the main pitch, from underage boys’ and girls’ teams right through to adult and senior squads. It is a central hub for sporting and community life, and maintaining it to a high standard is crucial to the long-term success and sustainability of Four Masters GAA Club.
Almost 50 people from the local area have already signed up to take part in Pedal for the Pitch, underlining the strong community spirit that surrounds Four Masters GAA Club. Their efforts, along with the generosity of sponsors and donors, will make a real and lasting difference to what is an essential sports facility in Donegal Town.

Club Cathaoirleach, Greg McGrory, said: “Tír Conaill Park is at the heart of our Club, and with 42 teams using our main pitch every year, it is vital that we ensure it remains playable and safe for all who use it. The Pedal for the Pitch 100km cycle is a tough challenge, and I'd like to thank all the former players, volunteers, club members, and the local community who are taking part on 10th May. We are extremely grateful to everyone who can support this fundraiser over the coming weeks.”
There’s still time for cycling enthusiasts to join the peloton on May 10. Please contact 087 2449129 if you’d like to sign up.
To support the initiative, people can sponsor a cyclist on the dedicated fundraising website https://fourmastersgaa.fundmajor.com/ or by donating directly to those taking part or via any club member.
