The JS Memorial Run, in memory of the late John Sloan (pictured), will take place this Saturday
A car and motorbike meetup and memorial run will be held in Letterkenny to raise money for charity.
The JS Memorial Run, in memory of the late John Sloan, will be held at Snugborough restaurant this Saturday, April 11. The meetup will take place at 12pm and will leave at 2pm for a run to Hornhead and Marblehill and back again.
The memorial run will raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society Of Ireland and The Irish Cancer Society. Donations can be made on the day or via the JS Memorial Run idonate page.
The JS Memorial Run was organised by John’s daughter Laura Sloan. It will mark what would be John’s 80th birthday on April 14, as John sadly passed away in January this year. The family are originally from Belfast and Laura lives in Letterkenny with her three children.

The late John Sloan
The idea for a memorial run came to Laura as her father was an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast. She’s encouraging anyone who’s interested to come along, no matter what kind of vehicle they have.
“It doesn’t matter what you bring, even if it’s a skateboard,” says Laura. “It’s about the person behind the car. It’s about being there and being part of it.”

The run will take in some of north-west Donegal’s most scenic places, including Creeslough and Dunfanaghy. Laura says these are some of the places her dad “loved the most”.
She chose to support the Alzheimer’s Society Of Ireland and The Irish Cancer Society as “the charities were so good” when John was ill.
Laura hopes that she can make her dad and the charities proud. She would also like people who have lost loved ones to take comfort from the day.
“They can come and share stories as a way to remember them in a cheerful way,” she says. “Thank you to everyone that’s already donated.
“Many thanks to Sergei McDermott for his help on graphics and photography on the day. To Snugborough Restaurant for allowing us to hold the meet at their premises and to everyone that donates. No matter how much, every penny will make a difference.
“‘Keep er lit’ as Dad would say.”
