Buncrana artist Veronica Buchanan has been awarded the Derek Hill Foundation Prize at this year’s Easter Open Art Competition at Glebe House and Gallery.
Her winning piece, a ceramic and textile sculpture titled ‘Secret Child’, impressed judges with its depth and emotional resonance.
A native of Buncrana, Buchanan studied Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design before embarking on a 35-year career teaching art.
Since retiring, she has transitioned into full-time artistic practice, exhibiting widely at both local and national level. In 2019, she held her first solo exhibition at An Grianán Theatre.

The Easter Open Art Competition exhibition is still currently running daily at the Glebe House and Gallery, the former home of artist Derek Hill, located in Churchill near Letterkenny.
Admission is free and open to the public, with visitors welcome from 10am to 6pm each day. On the final day, Sunday, April 12, the exhibition will close earlier at 4pm to facilitate the collection of artworks by participating artists.
