Volunteers who helped out at the recent Good Friday clean-up in Carndonagh.
The 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Carndonagh Tidy Towns Association took place recently.
Helen Robins, outgoing chairperson, in her address to the meeting, detailed the efforts of the volunteers and CE workers to keep the town looking well throughout the year.
She outlined the tasks that are in hand in preparation for the summer. Thanks were offered to the Carn Traders Association for the new litter bins.
Helen also thanked the County Council, Tus and Fás workers, their supervisors and funders, Joe McLaughlin, the local media, each and every person who volunteered in any way, and to the very generous businesses which sponsored various events throughout the year and to everyone who contributed to and supported fundraising events and helped in many ways.
She also detailed other sources of Carndonagh Tidy Towns income, including the raffle, Bright Beginnings pyjama day, grant awards and the main sponsor SuperValu.
Helen listed the many organisations that the Carn Tidy Towns Association has been collaborating with to improve the town, such as the Scouts, the Barrack Hill Committee, Spraoi agus Sport, Carndonagh Nursery, Sli Workability, Cashel na Cor and Little Acorns.
These have resulted in some great projects, such as the fruit trees planted at Station Road and the stunning displays of daffodil and tulip throughout the town, with plans for future projects such as native hedgerows and trees.
Outgoing Chair Helen expressed delight at winning Community Group of the Year at the Business and Community Awards and at the success of the well-attended prizegiving night.

She said the increase in the Carndonagh Tidy Towns score in the national competition by 15 points was also a source of pride. Helen looked forward to a successful summer ahead, when the fruits of the volunteers’ labours will be on display throughout the town.
The election of officers was as follows: Chairperson: Charlie McKinney; Secretary: Rosemary Doherty; Assistant Secretary: Gráinne Gillen; Treasurer: Ross Bowyer; Assistant Treasurer: Gerry Doherty; PRO: Grainne Gillen; Volunteer Co-ordinator: Josephine Doherty.
Meanwhile, the Carn Tidy Town Annual Spring Clean took place on Good Friday, April 3, when a good turnout resulted in many, many bags of litter being collected from the town and surrounding areas.
“We were delighted that the Scouts and their leaders also helped out. Thank you for generously sharing your time and energy for the benefit of our local community. We are always looking to recruit more volunteers. Please contact any committee member if you can help out in any way,” a Carndonagh TT spokesperson added.
