Malin Head road will be closed from next week for seven weeks

New water main to be laid at Malin Head

A section of the road between Malin Head and Umgall will close for almost seven weeks from later this month to allow for the laying of a new water main.
Donegal County Council issued notice of a temporary road closure on the L1051-1, which will come into effect on Monday 20 April and remain in place until Thursday 11 June.
The road in question is a few kilometres south of Malin Head and close to the picturesque Five Finger Strand.
A local diversion for the Umgall road will operate via the R242, L1041-1 and L1031-3 for the duration of the works. Local access will be maintained throughout.

More than 2km of old and damaged water mains will be dug up and replaced with modern pipes, with new water service connections laid to connect homes, farms and businesses to the upgraded network.
Malin Head has been plagued by water outages for several years, with the problems particularly acute during the summer months.
