There is currently no funding available for additional street lighting in either Ros Suilighe in Oldtown or Ballymacool estate, councillors have been told.
The issues were raised by 100% Redress Councillor Tómas Seán Devine, who called for streetlights to be erected on the back lane in Ros Suilighe after concerns were raised by residents.
Speaking at the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District meeting, Cllr Devine said the area is being used more frequently because of parking restrictions and roadworks in Oldtown.
Cllr Devine added that there were also issues with water running onto the road.

In its response, the council said public lighting is already provided along the frontage of the houses in Ros Suilighe, but confirmed there is currently no funding available to provide lighting on the back lanes.
Cllr Devine also sought an update on street lighting and the cleaning of footpaths in Ballymacool estate.
The council said the section of footpath adjacent to the Independent Living Centre has been cleaned, but there is no current programme to clean the remaining footpaths in the estate.
The council again said there is currently no funding available for additional public lighting.
Cllr Devine suggested he would be willing to use his Members’ Infrastructure Fund allocation in both Oldtown and Ballymacool.
