A Ramelton man accused of seriously assaulting another man is due to stand trial.

Barry McGarvey was served with a book of evidence when he appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

McGarvey, 45, of Castle Street, Ramelton, has been charged in relation to an alleged incident at Conway’s Bar, Ramelton, on July 7, 2024.

McGarvey has been charged with assaulting another man and causing him harm. The charge is contrary to section 3 (1) and 3 (2) of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 as amended by section 20 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023.

Garda Gillian Page gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on McGarvey at 11.02am on April 20 at Letterkenny courthouse.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for McGarvey to be sent forward for trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Emile Daly made an order returning McGarvey for trial. Judge Daly administered the alibi warning and made a section 56 order in respect of interviews.

McGarvey was granted bail in his own bond and legal aid was given to his solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher. One legal counsel was assigned in the case.
