The case was before Letterkenny District Court

A man who was caught driving a lorry while he was supposed to be serving a driving ban has been put off the road for four years.

Roy Anderson was caught by Gardai on April 21, 2025 at Springhill, Ballindrait.

Letterkenny District Court heard that Gardai observed Anderson driving a white MAN lorry at 9.50am and pulled him in on suspicion that he was driving without insurance of a driving licence.

Gardai made a lawful demand for his documents and Anderson undertook to produce them to a Garda station within 10 days.

However, he failed to do so.

Anderson, now a 60-year-old with an address at Aghawee, Lifford, was disqualified from driving at the time. Sergeant Jim Collins confirmed to the court that Anderson was given a four-year disqualification when he appeared before the court in 2022.

Anderson pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

His solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, told Judge Emile Daly that he was unaware that his client, a farmer, ought to have been serving a driving ban at the time of the offence.

“I don’t think he understood the magnitude of driving in these circumstances,” Mr Dorrian said.

On a charge of driving without insurance, and on the basis that he was driving while disqualified, Judge Daly disqualified Anderson for four years. He was also fined €400 and given six months to pay.

For driving without a licence, Anderson was fined €150 and also give six months to pay.
