Mr Bird's candour and generous spirit has certainly resonated with people across Ireland and beyond, and this climb has become a beacon of love and light for people who are mentally or physically fragile in the wake of the pandemic and other traumas.
Reminding Late Late show viewers of the purpose of his climb, Mr Bird said: "When I get into that church [on top of Croagh Patrick] I will light a candle for everyone who has a terminal illness, for everyone in this country who went through the pandemic, for everyone who has dark thoughts."
