A speedcheck was mounted on the Leck Road
Gardaí mounted a speed checkpoint on a busy Letterkenny road after concerns were raised by residents.
Officers detected a number of vehicles traveling in excess of the 60km/h speed limit on the Leck Road.
Gardai from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit conducted the speed check.
Fixed charge penalty notices have been issued to the motorists found in breach of the speed limit. They will receive an €80 fine and three penalty points.
“Slow down and help save lives,” a Garda spokesperson said.
Last summer, Councillor Donal Coyle raised the matter of speeding on the road at a meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
“I think there has to be something done about it, it has become a very serious problem,” he said, adding that there was a real concern over pedestrians with a footpath only covering a certain section of the road.
