Ballyshannon residents are encouraged to roll their sleeves up and take part in a spring clean this Saturday.

‘Operation Ballyshannon’ begins at 10am tomorrow, Saturday morning, with people asked to meet at the library where gloves, bags, hi-vis jackets and refreshments will be supplied.

The spring clean is being organised by the Ballyshannon Regeneration Group.

Speaking to OceanFM, Fine Gael Councillor, Barry Sweeny, is asking people to bring along a brush, spade or tool of choice to help clean up Ireland oldest town.

He said: "Bring along a brush, a spade, a shovel or your tool of choice and we will organise ourselves into a few teams and pick different areas of the town, the centre of the town mostly, initially, and if we have enough volunteers we could spread out into other areas."

He siad that they are looking forward to having Ballyshannon cleaned up ahead of the much-anticipated St Patrick's Day parade.
