Loose slates in Ballybofey a "health and safety issue"

Fears that high winds could increase the chances of slates falling from a derelict shop in the middle of Ballybofey have prompted local councillor, Patrick McGowan to call for action immediately.

Cllr McGowan said the public are walking beneath this town centre building in the middle of one of Donegal's premier shopping towns not aware of the dangers above their heads.

"Any one of thousands of pedestrians could be hit at any time by fallen slates. The building has been neglected for years by its owners and the council was made aware several times that it had become derelict.£

He added he had been informed this evening (Friday) that a report of loose slates is being examined this evening by council engineers.

"Donegal County Council engineering staff are examining it with a view to having any necessary works to secure it carried out, he said"
