An emotional appeal has been made for the safe return of a Holy Cross and chain that means a lot to a 33-year-old man as it belonged to his late father, Michael Mc Shane, who sadly passed away thirteen years ago.
Eamon Mc Shane was on Arranmore Island last Saturday taking part in an annual football tournament. He was wearing his late father's cross and chain. As he left the dressing room he was advised to take the chain off for safety reasons. Eamon took the chain off and put it in his bag for safekeeping. However, the chain was not there on his return.
His mother, Roseleen Mc Shane took to Facebook to appeal for the safe return of the chain. She said: "As a last resort I am hoping that it can be found with the power of social media. It’s of great sentimental value to Eamon as it was a gift given to his late Dad from me and the children and when his Dad passed away thirteen years ago I gave it to Eamon."
She said that to say the family are devastated is an understatement. She hopes that everyone will do their utmost to help find the chain.
It was the Feast Day of St. Anthony on Monday and Roseleen believes that with the saint's help the chain will be found.
