Permanent litter warden needed for Lifford-Stranorlar MD
Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District needed a litter warden working on a full-time basis.
That was the message from district chairman, Cllr Patrick McGowan at their recent meeting when he raised the issue.
Cllr McGowan said they had been operating with a temporary litter warden for their district for almost five years now and felt it was time to make the position permanent.
"We have a temporary person in place and that is just not good enough. We were left with no litter warden for five or six years. We have used a temporary warden on contract for the past two years. By all accounts, that litter warden is doing a great job but it's a bit ridiculous that someone has been doing that job for nearly four years and the full-time position is being left vacant.
He added it wasn't fair to that person who was doing a good job but being left out.
"There is no one in the council's senior management who would like to be left like that," he added.
Cllr McGowan encouraged action to be taken sooner rather than later.
"I know all the councillors have constant contact with the litter warden. The position needs to be filled on a full-time basis," he said.
