A man has been hauled before a special court sitting in Castlebar following an incident in Lettrkenny on Sunday that necessitated the deployment of armed Gardai.
The man is charged with assault causing harm to a woman at a house in Letterkenny on November 27, 2022 and he is also alleged to have assaulted a Garda at Letterkenny University Hospital.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons at this time, faced a further charge of assault, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
He was also charged with contravening a protection order, putting the woman in fear. The charge is contrary to Section 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act 2018.
Members of An Garda Siochana's Armed Response Unit attended the scene of the alleged incident.
The man was also charged with assaulting Garda David Lee at Letterkenny University Hospital, an offence contrary to Section 19 (1) (a) and (2) of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994.
The man, who is aged in his 40s, was arrested and appeared at a special sitting of Castlebar District Court on Tuesday.
Judge Fiona Lydon remanded the accused in custody to appear before Letterkenny District Court on Monday, December 5.
