Brazen thieves have raided lobster pots and cooked the stolen foods on a Donegal beach.
Fishermen in south Donegal have reported the incidents of their lobster pots being stolen.
“The food is being taken and cooked on the beach,” Councillor Niamh Kennedy told a meeting of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee.
“The pots are being lifted by people coming in and fishermen have raised the issues.”
Donegal Live understands that the incidents where the stolen lobster was being cooked on the associated beach happened at St John's Point.
Councillor Kennedy highlighted the increased theft of boat engines, something she said has become a 'regular occurrence'.
The Killybegs-based Councillor said she has brought the matter of installing CCTV on Donegal piers and harbours to meetings at Municipal District level.
She also urged Garda chiefs to 'sort out' the lack of adequate vehicles for the force in south west Donegal. A patrol car is currently being shared between the Garda stations in Killybegs and Carrick.
