Packie Bonner celebrates his win
Packie Bonner netted £25,000 for charity when he won a Legends golf tournament in the Seychelles last weekend.
The legendary Republic of Ireland goalkeeper shot three-under-par at the Constance Lemuria on Praslin Island.
Bonner took the the top prize, which will go to the Amyloidosis Research Fund based at the Royal Holloway Hospital in London.
In roaring hot temperatures, Bonner fended off ex Formula One star Damon Hill to win after 36 holes.
The wapp Celebrity Series features ten big names from the world of sport and showbiz who qualified to play in the Seychelles with Boner winning when the Legends Tour came to Rosapenna in August.
The charity is one close to Bonner's heart. His father died of Amyloidosis aged just 61 one.
“I am so happy that I have been able to give something back to the charity,” Bonner said.
“It feels wonderful.
“I have to be tested for it myself, at the end of the day it’s an important charity and the research is getting closer to, at the least, a medication that would help if you get it early enough and they may even find a cure – so that’s what we are trying to do.”
Bonner managed the win using a borrowed set of clubs after his own didn't arrive in transit from Ireland.
Former Premier League footballers Gianfranco Zola, Robbie Fowler and Roberto Di Matteo also played in the event.
