Around 120 vehicles, mainly tractors escorted Santa on a charity drive around St Johnston, Carrigans, Killea and Newtowncunningham areas recently and raised an amazing €8,270 in the process.
The annual fundraiser, organised by the charity committee attached to Maggie's Tavern at Carrickmore, outside St Johnston, received tremendous support from the local communities and businesses so between entry fees, a raffle, donations and sponsorship, they were able to amass such a fantastic amount of money for this year's recipient, the Donegal Hospice.
The committee has been organising a charity event like this since 2009, and apart from a break for a year or two, they have been bringing seasonal cheer to many charities throughout the area.
A sponsored cycle to be held in conjunction with the tractor run had to be postponed due to the inclement weather but it is hoped it will be staged sometime in February.
Spokesman for the organisers, Robin Canning thanked everyone who helped in any way to make this year's event such a success. The cheque was presented to the Hospice at the funciton in Maggie's Tavern on Thursday night.
