JP Kennedy releases music video for debut single ‘Clementine’

Ardara singer and songwriter JP Kennedy has released a new music video for his debut single ‘Clementine’.

Filmed at various locations in Cyprus, the fun video includes appearances by his parents Connell and Maria who ran the knitwear business Kennedy of Ardara.

Local musicians also feature on the track; Paul Collum from Ardara on drums, Ciaran  Crossan from Ballyshannon on guitar, and Brian Cannon from Leitirmacaward on fiddle.

Opening with a sample of the tune it takes inspiration from, the Western classic ‘Oh My Darling Clementine’, the plot of the compelling video is the fateful demise of a lover, putting a twist to the tale of what happened to Clementine, while showcasing JP’s playful rebel image. To view the official video for 'Clementine', click this link

The Donegal born artist sought to capture the zest of his live act on the melodic track after performing at festivals and supporting well-known Celtic punk rock bands like The Rumjacks from Australia and The Mahones from Canada on European tour dates.

Now based in Germany, JP says he chose for the single release to coincide with his trip home for Christmas.

“My upcoming concept album that Clementine is taken from was inspired by my emigrant great-grandfather who ran saloons in the American Wild West before returning home to Donegal and setting up Kennedy of Ardara. The song was written at my family home, it's got Donegal musicians on it and my parents play characters in the video, so it just seemed right to be back in Donegal when I shared it with the world.”

The single ‘Clementine’ offers a small taste of exciting things to come sonically and visually from JP Kennedy in 2023.

‘Clementine (Oh My Darlin’ Drinks Moonshine)’ is now available to stream and download on all popular music platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon.
