An Irish traditional folk band from Meath who share strong affiliations with Rann na Feirste received a standing ovation following their sold-out performance at Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair last night.
The evening got off to a flying start when harpist Alannah Thornburgh took to the stage and played wonderful melodies. The audience came from near and far to enjoy the performances and were certainly not disappointed.
The event took place as part of Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair and were introduced to the stage by the director Cathal Ó Curreáin.
This year, 2022, marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Skara Braes self-titled release - a very influential and much-loved recording. Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair afforded people the opportunity to catch a rare glimpse of the much-loved band.
Among the songs that the band sang were An Saighdiúir Tréighte, Cáide sin don te sin, Tá mé mo shuí, Do you love an apple and An Cailin Rua.
The band recalled events early in their lives and sang songs that had strong connections with Rann na Feirste and versions of songs, such as, Dónal Óg, from Tory Island.
Many of those in the audience were familiar with the album and sang along to songs which have roots in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Also among the audience were musicians and singers from across the parish and further afield. The Scoil Gheimhridh continues today.
