Commencement Notices for 940 new residential homes in Louth were received by Building Control Authorities in the 12 months to February 2022, according to Commencement Notices data, published today by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Commencement Notices data indicates the number of homes on which construction commenced in any given month. A Commencement Notice is a notification to a Building Control Authority that a person intends to carry out either works or a Material Change of Use to which the Building Regulations apply.
According to the published data, 1,002 new residential units were commenced in Louth in total in 2021, the highest month being April, when construction began on 317 new homes. Looking at the first two months of 2022, 27 new homes commenced in January and 98 in February. This is down from 12 months previously, when 143 commenced in January and 44 in February.
Of the new commencements over the past 12 months in Louth, 156 were one off residential units. Eight of these commenced in both January and February of this year, up from seven in January and February of 2021.
Nationally, Commencement Notices for 2,237 new residential homes were received by Building Control Authorities in February 2022. In the past twelve months (March 2021 to February 2022), Commencement Notices for 33,006 new homes were received. This is the highest rolling 12-month total since comparable data were first published.
