These were the best-selling cars in February

It has been an unusually busy February for the motor trade, with new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) recording the best February in terms of new car registrations since 2004.

Demand for private vehicles was up, while registrations for plug-in hybrid vehicles saw a sizeable increase too. What were the most popular models fr the month, though? Let’s take a look.

Ford Puma – 3,220

The Ford Puma has been a common sight in this list for a long time now and in February, this compact crossover went above and beyond.

Thanks to its compact size, the Puma is great around town, yet it’s more than practical enough for a busy family on the go.

Kia Sportage – 2,205

Coming in at second was the Kia Sportage, a family-focused SUV that is offered with a variety of efficient yet punchy engine setups. Inside, the Sportage is packed with equipment and it’s all put together solidly as well.

Kia’s comprehensive seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty is also among the longest and demonstrates the brand’s confidence in the reliability of its cars.

Mini Cooper – 1,828

There seems to be no signs to show that demand for the stylish Mini Cooper is dwindling, with this well-known model taking the third spot in February. With its classic design and premium-feeling interior, the Mini remains a car that people aspire to own.

It’s also got a great range of engines and there’s an electric version for those drivers who want a battery-powered option, too.

Tesla Model 3 – 1,584

Tesla has had a commanding role in the electric car market for a little while and though some of that popularity is waning, the Model 3 remains a very competitive vehicle within the electric class.

The Model 3 is packed with technology and is able to use Tesla’s widespread Supercharger network, too.

Jaecoo 7 – 1,446

It’s been a busy few months for Chinese brands as more and more new manufacturers have appeared on the scene. The Jaecoo 7 is arguably one of the most popular models to have come from this new wave and in February, demand remained high.

Available with petrol and plug-in hybrid options, the 7 brings a lot of equipment and tech for the money.

Volvo XC40 – 1,392

Volvo’s XC40 continues to be a popular option among drivers, with this car’s solid build quality and refined design ensuring it still looks fresh today, despite having been on sale for several years.

It’s available with both hybrid and full electric setups, too, giving something for everyone.

Volkswagen Tiguan – 1,379

The Tiguan is one of Volkswagen’s most popular models and in its latest generation, it has become even more upmarket and refined. There’s lots of space inside, too, while a large boot is very helpful as well.

The Tiguan can also be equipped with an efficient plug-in hybrid option, though there remain more regular setups for those who want one.

Vauxhall Corsa – 1,335

While the popularity of crossovers and SUVs has risen in recent years, continued demand for the Vauxhall Corsa shows that people still want uncomplicated city cars, too.

Available with petrol and electric options, the Corsa is a household name which still delivers today thanks to its generous equipment levels and sharp design.

Ford Kuga – 1,286

Ford’s Kuga has been a family-friendly option for many years now and though many competitors have entered the scene to run alongside it, it remains a very popular option.

Lots of interior space is the key plus-point, though the Kuga’s rugged interior and neat styling help in other ways

Hyundai Tucson – 1,222

Finally, we have the Hyundai Tucson, which is another common sight on the monthly list of best-selling cars. With its futuristic exterior, it certainly stands out from the crowd, while inside there’s plenty of tech to keep the most gadget-hungry of people happy.

Available with hybrid and petrol engines, the Tucson also offers very good efficiency considering its size.
