Barcelona suffered a first LaLiga defeat of the season as they were thumped 4-1 by 10-man Sevilla.
Victory would have taken the reigning champions back above Real Madrid at the top of the table but instead they completed a week that also included a Champions League loss to Paris St Germain in miserable fashion.
Former Barca playmaker Alexis Sanchez and Isaac Romero struck inside the opening 36 minutes for the hosts at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
Marcus Rashford gave the visitors hope with a superb volley in first-half stoppage time but Robert Lewandowski spurned the chance to level from the penalty spot after a foul on the England forward.
And Sevilla made them pay as Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams scored in the closing stages either side of the sending-off of Peque.
High-flying Elche also suffered their first league loss of the season, going down 3-1 to Alaves, with all the goals scored in the final 15 minutes.
Atletico Madrid were unable to overtake them, held to a 1-1 draw by Celta Vigo after Clement Lenglet’s first-half red card, with Iago Aspas cancelling out Carl Starfelt’s early own goal.
Real Betis sit fourth after a 2-1 win away at Espanyol while Rayo Vallecano beat Real Sociedad 1-0.
Roma claimed their fifth win from six Serie A games with a 2-1 victory at struggling Fiorentina.
Moise Kean put the hosts ahead in Florence in the 14th minute but Roma responded impressively, Matias Soule equalising eight minutes later and Bryan Cristante netting what proved to be the winner with half an hour gone.
They sit at the top of the table just behind Napoli, whose game against Genoa followed the same pattern.
Patrick Vieira’s Genoa are yet to claim a victory in the league this season but they took the lead in the 33rd minute through teenager Jeff Ekhator.
However, Frank Anguissa levelled the scores in the 57th minute and Rasmus Hojlund netted the fifth goal of his loan spell from Manchester United for a 75th-minute winner.
Christian Pulisic missed a penalty as AC Milan and Juventus played out a goalless draw in Turin.
Bologna are sixth after hammering bottom side Pisa 4-0 while Udinese and Cagliari shared the points after a 1-1 draw.
In Ligue 1, Paris St Germain lead the table by a point after a 1-1 draw with Lille, Ethan Mbappe’s late goal earning the hosts a draw following Nuno Mendes’ opener.
Lyon suffered their second defeat of the season, going down 2-1 at home to Toulouse.
Malick Fofana’s 24th-minute goal looked like it would win it for OL but they were hit by two late sucker punches from Emersonn, with the Brazilian equalising in the 87th minute and then netting the winner six minutes into added time.
Strasbourg drew level with Lyon and Marseille thanks to a 5-0 thumping of lowly Angers, Joaquin Panichelli and Martial Godo both scoring twice.

Monaco missed the chance to also reach 15 points as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to neighbours Nice.
An eventful encounter featured three penalties and a red card for Nice’s Ali Al-Abdi in the 34th minute.
Sofiane Diop had put the visitors 1-0 up before Al-Abdi’s exit and he doubled the advantage from the spot, only for Ansu Fati to pull one back with another penalty at the end of the first half.
Fati then drew the hosts level from another spot-kick in the 56th minute but they could not force a winner.
It was the same scoreline between Le Havre and Rennes while, in the Bundesliga, Stuttgart defeated Heidenheim 1-0, Hamburg were 4-0 winners over Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach drew 0-0 with Freiburg.
