Rangers get their man in German striker Ryan Naderi

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl got the striker he wanted to spearhead his side’s title charge, while Celtic ended the transfer window without a permanent signing and rejecting a major offer.

Rohl secured the signing of fellow German Ryan Naderi from third-tier Hansa Rostock in a deal reported to be worth about £5million.

The 22-year-old, who has delivered eight goals and five assists in 18 games this season, is the Light Blues’ fourth signing of the window. Three of them were permanent deals.

Celtic fended off major interest from Nottingham Forest in Arne Engels before completing three deadline-day loan deals, taking their window additions to five. Forest were understood to have failed with a third bid worth up to £25million for Celtic’s record signing, who cost £11m from Augsburg in August 2024.

Celtic brought in 24-year-old Austria international forward Adamu from Freiburg and 22-year-old Lorient winger Joel Mvuka. Both deals include an option to buy. The Hoops also confirmed the loan signing of 20-year-old Brentford central defender Benjamin Arthur.

Those arrivals allowed Celtic to loan Johnny Kenny to Bolton and Stephen Welsh back to Motherwell.

There were also exits from Ibrox. Midfielder Joe Rothwell signed for Sheffield United, while Clinton Nsiala joined Belgian side Westerlo on loan with an option for a permanent move. Danilo’s proposed move to NEC Nijmegen could also still go through.

There were two surprise deals involving 18-year-old Scottish forwards. James Wilson joined Tottenham on loan with a view to a summer transfer 24 hours after Arsenal made an enquiry about the Scotland cap, who has only had about 90 minutes of Premiership action all season after previously netting eight goals for the club.

Arsenal swooped for another teenager in St Mirren forward Evan Mooney. The Buddies declared they had secured a “substantial fee with potential for significant future add-ons and a sizeable sell-on clause”. Saints brought in an 18-year-old from the Premier League as Manchester United Under-21 captain Jacob Devaney bolstered their midfield.

It was a busy day at Easter Road. Hibernian signed right-back Felix Passlack from Bochum, versatile attacker Ante Suto from Croatian side Slaven Belupo on permanent deals, while Zimbabwe centre-back Mushane Garananga joined on loan from FC Copenhagen.

Hibs allowed Dylan Levitt to join Leyton Orient and Junior Hoilett departed for Swindon, while Thibault Klidje joined Danish side Randers on loan.

Aberdeen signed 27-year-old midfielder Dennis Geiger on loan from Hoffenheim, with an option to buy, while Adil Aouchiche was recalled by Sunderland ahead of a move to Schalke. Another midfielder departed as Leighton Clarkson joined Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.

Midfielder Aaron Tshibola returned for a fourth spell at Kilmarnock on a contract until the end of the season while Falkirk announced the arrival of 19-year-old Aston Villa winger Ben Broggio on loan.

Dundee made three signings as Dutch defender Lewis Montsma joined on a short-term deal from Lincoln, former Aberdeen and Rangers winger Scott Wright joined on loan from Birmingham and 18-year-old forward Aldahir Valenzuela became the latest player to sign on loan from Mexican side Monterrey.

Dundee also looks to have rebuffed interest in Luke Graham.

Dundee United signed 21-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Agyei on a permanent transfer from Israeli Premier League side Ashdod.
