Kieran Shanks misses late chance to secure Peterhead win at Montrose

Kieran Shanks saw a stoppage-time header come back off the crossbar as Peterhead settled for a 1-1 draw away to Montrose in William Hill League One.

Taylor Sutherland put the hosts in front from the penalty spot with 19 minutes gone, but Shanks levelled for Peterhead nine minutes into the second half with a cheeky lob after a mix-up in the home defence, then crashed a header off the crossbar at the death.

In League Two, Annan moved to within three points of the play-off places as Joel Mumbongo’s 79th-minute strike earned a 1-0 win over Dumbarton.

Craig Howie scored and was sent off as third-placed Clyde were held to a 1-1 draw by Elgin. Howie headed the hosts in front in the first half but Ryan Sargent stabbed home a leveller 10 minutes from time and Howie saw red at the death as he slid in to stop a counter-attack.
