Lionel Messi and Inter Miami had the worst possible start to their reign as MLS champions, going down 3-0 to Los Angeles FC.
Former Tottenham forward Son Heung-min assisted David Martinez with the opening goal in the 38th minute, before Denis Bouanga extended LA’s lead to two in the 78th minute.
Despite a wealth of possession, Miami were unable to stem the bleeding and their defeat was sealed when Nathan Ordaz found the back of the net in the dying seconds.
Los Angeles did well to minimise Messi’s impact, as the veteran forward played despite dealing with a strained hamstring.
Los Angeles also maintained their undefeated streak in season openers, improving to 9-0.
