Play-off rivals Arbroath and Ayr share spoils in Scottish Championship

Anton Dowds scored a late equaliser to earn Ayr a 1-1 draw at play-off rivals Arbroath in the Scottish Championship.

The contest was goalless until Findlay Marshall found the back of the net for the hosts in the 74th minute.

But Dowds nodded home the equaliser with four minutes remaining to ensure the sides split the points.

Arbroath remain third in the league table, eight points clear of their opponents who sit fifth.

Fourth-placed Dunfermline moved two points clear of Ayr with a 3-0 victory over basement club Ross County.

Two first-half goals from Callumn Morrison were added to by a late Chris Kane strike.

Stenhousemuir moved level on points with Scottish League One leaders Inverness thanks to a 1-0 win over Hamilton.

Olly Whyte scored the only goal of the game against a Hamilton side who had Gregor Crookston sent off in second-half stoppage time.

Montrose missed the chance to close in on the play-offs as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to bottom club Kelty.

In Tuesday’s only Scottish League Two clash, Mark Stowe scored both goals as second-placed Spartans beat Stirling 2-0 to close the gap on leaders East Kilbride to two points.
