Charlie Bond harbouring Classic dreams for Black Caviar Gold

The Bond Thoroughbred team are already dreaming of next year after Black Caviar Gold advertised her star quality at the Curragh last Sunday.

A decisive winner at Cork on her previous start, Paddy Twomey’s youngster delivered an equally taking display when tackling the Weld Park Stakes, with all connected suitably impressed with her stylish move into Group Three company.

“We’re very excited and she seems to skip over the ground when others look one-paced,” said Charlie Bond, director of Bond Thoroughbred.

“The time was quick and Paddy did think she would win the race and they were very confident, but when I spoke to Billy Lee, he’s not normally blown away in his words, but he said he had so much left underneath him and she was flying.”

That victorious outing at the Curragh will be the Havana Grey filly’s final appearance of the season, but connections are hopeful the next time she is seen at the track will be in next year’s Irish 1,000 Guineas.

“This filly we think can go all the way but it’s a long winter unfortunately, so we won’t know until next year,” continued Bond.

“You can’t help but think about next year, especially when people like Paddy Twomey are mentioning races like the Irish 1,000 Guineas or French Guineas. It was a very impressive performance and you could tell three furlongs out she was going to win.

“She’s a three-year-old and anything she did on track this year was a bonus and Sunday was the perfect way to end. In her homework she has been fantastic and we expected her to be winning second time out to be honest. She was immature then but she’s really switched on and taking to her races now.”
