Godolphin strike again at Tattersalls

After securing the top lot on day one of the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale, Godolphin splashed out 2.2million guineas for a son of Frankel on day two in Newmarket.

Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation paid 3.7m gns for a Sea The Stars colt on Tuesday and took their total spending past 12m gns when securing the Frankel colt out of Innevera, making him a full brother to Group Two scorer Ottoman Fleet.

The colt was consigned by Fittocks Stud, which is run by former trainer Luca Cumani and his wife Sara, and it was the best sales result so far for the team.

Luca Cumani told Tattersalls: “We sold one for 2m gns last year, which was exciting, and this is even better.

“He is such a lovely horse, he is great-looking Frankel horse out of a proven mare and we are delighted he is going to such a good home.”

Fittocks Stud was also the consignor for a Dubawi colt out of Group One winner Lady Bowthorpe, who made 1.3m guineas after being purchased by MV Magnier and White Birch Farm – a first buy at this year’s sale for the Coolmore team.

Cumani said: “I’m delighted with that. Unfortunately I made a mistake by telling Emma (Banks, owner) beforehand that my top one this year would be hers, so when one made 2.2 obviously expectations were for this one to be even higher so that was my mistake – wrong prediction at the wrong time.”

Magnier said: “He is a lovely horse, Lady Bowthorpe was a very good race mare, it is a great result for Emma Banks who is a very nice lady, so well done to her.

“Dubawi is still going very well, and we have retired Delacroix this year – he is a complete outcross for us, and he is probably one of the most important horses we have retired for a good while. If this lad is any good, he will be the same.”

Magnier also secured the winning bid of 500,000 gns for a Blackbeard half-brother to Group One-winning sprinter Arizona Blaze.
