Onemoredance secured her fifth win of the year as she registered a shock 33-1 success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Garnet Stakes at Naas.
Trained by Johnny Murtagh, Onemoredance started the campaign rated 58 but two wins at Tipperary and Leopardstown saw her perch increase to 91 ahead of this Listed mile assignment.
That left her with a bit find with some three-figure rivals but Onemoredance outran her long odds to claim a half-length verdict in the hands of Ben Coen.
Murtagh said: “I can’t say enough about this filly. She’s improved so much during the year.
“She was tricky at the start of the year and you have to humour her, but she’s really got into the racing zone and built up lovely through the ranks.
“She had a lovely draw today and he rode her beautifully and got a lovely run through. She quickened up well. She’s tough, hardy and loves her racing. It’s her fifth win of the year.
“She’s in the December mare sale and it’s a great way for her to go.”
There was a surprise result in the other Listed heat as 22-1 shot Fleur De Chine prevailed in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Bluebell Stakes.
The four-year-old had finished fourth in Group Three company last time but thrived on the yielding ground as she came home a length-and-a-half winner over Beset under jockey Colin Keane.
Winning trainer Jessica Harrington: “She just hasn’t had the ground all summer. When we stepped her up in trip she ran well in Gowran the last day, staying on.
“Colin gave her a very cool ride.
“She may run again in the mile-and-a-half Finale Stakes at the Curragh, and Bonnie Moon will probably run in the two-mile Loughbrown.”
The Irish EBF Auction Series Race Final produced a more predictable result as 100-30 joint-favourite Alphecca triumphed for Joseph Murphy and Gary Carroll.
A winner over a mile just six days ago, Alphecca dealt with the drop back to seven furlongs, staying on all the way to the line to bag the €70,800 first prize.
Carroll said: “That was great and a lovely pot to win for the filly. It’s (owner) Ger Kervick’s first homebred so he’s delighted.
“She’s an improving filly. They took a chance running her back quickly from Killarney but it paid dividends.
“She did everything right, picked up and got to the line really strong. A mile is probably her trip and I think she can get black type next year.”
Light As Air (11-2) landed the Colm White Bookmaker Beggar’s End Handicap for Aidan O’Brien and Wayne Lordan, with stablemate and 2-1 favourite Saratoga finishing fifth.
Lordan’s mount looked a likely winner with two furlongs still to run of the two-mile event, travelling well before eventually kicking two and a half lengths clear to make amends for a narrow defeat last time.
O’Brien said: “He was unlucky in Leopardstown.
“He got the trip well. Wayne said he has class going that distance and he quickened up well.
“There is a Group Three (Loughbrown Stakes at the Curragh on November 2) that they could both (Light As Air and Saratoga) go for.”
