Shayem to strike Silver gold

Karl Burke’s Shayem can rise to the task in the British Stallion Studs EBF Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract.

The colt has made an encouraging start to his career this season, winning a Haydock novice event on debut before returning to the same track to finish third in the Listed Ascendant Stakes over a mile in September.

On the latter occasion he was defeated by George Boughey’s Bow Echo, a subsequent Group Two winner in the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket and a leading contender for next year’s 2000 Guineas.

Shayem was also a winner next time out, heading to Epsom to contest the Betfred Derby ‘Wild Card’ EBF Conditions Stakes and coming home comfortably ahead in a small field to further demonstrate his promise.

Though there were only two rivals in that race, which earns him a spot in the Derby next season should connections choose to take it, he was conceding weight to both and still prevailed by two and a quarter lengths.

Whether the Derby will be his trip or indeed his level remains to be seen, but he stays at a mile for now and can gain another win as well as more experience in this Listed event.

In the Phil Bull Trophy Honouring Geoff Greetham Conditions Stakes, it is Harry Eustace’s Divine Comedy who can prevail.

The seven-year-old mare is an experienced campaigner who has Listed form on her record and was last seen coming home fourth in the Cesarewitch over two miles and two furlongs.

She tackles the same trip in Yorkshire and having earned just a 1lb rise for her efforts on the Rowley Mile little over a week ago, she looks sure to go close if remaining in the same form.

At Plumpton, Alan King’s Nap Hand bring solid summer jumps form into the Bet Goodwin Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old was in good order over hurdles through the warmer months and with conditions hardly slower heading into autumn, he can maintain that run and go one better than his second-placed effort at this venue last time out.

Noble Vow posted an eyecatching effort in defeat at Newbury last time and is the one to follow in the Hotel and Conferencing At Wolverhampton Racecourse EBF Maiden Stakes at Dunstall Park.

Richard Hannon’s charge could not find a clear passage on his most recent start, so his performance in being beaten only three lengths can certainly be upgraded.

Ubettabehave seemed to improve for stepping up to a mile and he sticks at that trip in the BetWright Bangers N’Cash Nursery Handicap at Bath.

Four starts in sprint company yielded little joy but upped in distance, he was beaten just half a length at Redcar and remains on an unchanged mark here.
