Connections looking forward to next season with Goodie Two Shoes

Goodie Two Shoes will be back for more on the Flat next year after giving the McManus family a thrill with her near-miss in the Melbourne Cup.

Along with the fancied Al Riffa, the Irish raider was looking to provide trainer Joseph O’Brien with a third victory in the Flemington feature and although sent off one of the outsiders, Goodie Two Shoes repeated the smart form she has shown all season to delight connections with her effort.

“She ran a great race, Wayne (Lordan) gave her a lovely ride and she just found one to good,” said Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus.

“It was very exciting to watch and you couldn’t be happier with her. She’s a home-bred and barring winning, it couldn’t have worked out better.

“Joseph’s team did a great job with her and she got a great ride, so you can’t ask for any more.

“A few of the family were there and it was very exciting. It’s a wonderful race and it was great to have one go down there and run well.

“Over a furlong down it might have looked like she was going to take a bit of passing, but then there was one in there a bit too good.”

Goodie Two Shoes was running over fences earlier this year before embarking on a fine spell on the level, winning three times, including a Group Three at Fairyhouse, before her winning run came to an end at Goodwood in the summer.

That was her final appearance prior to her trip to the southern hemisphere and it was confirmed there are no plans to go jumping again this winter, with Berry adding: “She’ll stay on the Flat and we look forward to having her back racing next year.”
