Paggane records another headline success for Faye Bramley

Paggane records another headline success for Faye Bramley

Paggane notched made it back-to-back Listed victories when striking at Market Rasen in the feature Pertemps Network Bud Booth Mares’ Chase on Wednesday.

The former Willie Mullins inmate has been a star for fledgling handler Bramley, who is based at Sir Anthony McCoy’s pre-training yard in Lambourn.

A winner of a similar event at Carlisle recently, the six-year-old took the step up three miles in her stride in the hands of Harry Cobden, never far away from Stuart Edmunds’ defending champion and stable star Marsh Wren, who set about to make most in the hands of Charlie Hammond.

Cobden found himself in the prime position to strike aboard the even-money favourite once Hammond sent out distress signals aboard Marsh Wren, with Paggane sauntering to an eight-and-a-half-length victory, with Henry Daly’s recent Ludlow scorer Minniemum running on for second.

Paggane was handed a quote of 12-1 from 16s by Paddy Power for the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, with Cobden thrilled to be in the winner’s enclosure again aboard the thriving mare.

He told Racing TV: “It was very straightforward and I thought the writing was on the wall for Stuart Edmunds’ mare probably from halfway down the back.

“It was a case of Paggane staying on all four feet and keeping the jockey intact and she’s obviously a lovely mare who is very straightforward and jumps well. Faye has done a brilliant job with her.

“She’s obviously a very, very good mare and travels well over three miles but is tough enough to go over two and a half. She’s very versatile and doesn’t feel ground dependent and is very genuine and honest and it also helps when they have lots of ability.

“I suppose Doncaster could be a possibility for her over Christmas and I suppose you would have to work back from the Mares’ Chase at the Festival.”

Meanwhile, an ecstatic Bramley was on “cloud nine” after watching the horse that gave the trainer her first Listed success quicky double her tally.

She said: “She just keeps improving and I can’t get my head around it. She had good form for Willie and I’m just hoping to keep it up and she is doing just that.

“I’m a worrier, but turning in I thought ‘OK we’re on’, so I’m delighted. I just can’t believe it and I’m on cloud nine at the moment – she is a star and I love her.

“Her path would be Listed chases and with her rating it would be easy to map out her future. If all went well today we said we would go to Doncaster (Silver Vase Mares’ Chase) at the end of next month (December 29).

“That is a £75,000 race so we will see what the Irish bring over and how she gets on there.”
