Parkinson eyeing Peter Marsh run for Konfusion

Konfusion is pencilled in for the Peter Marsh Chase as a tilt at one of the big spring meetings may beckon later in the season.

The chestnut, trained by Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith, has been faring well all season, winning at Wetherby on debut and taking the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle by 15 lengths in late November.

A parting of ways with his rider at Haydock in between those runs was the only blip, with his most recent outing a seven-length triumph in the Rowland Meyrick back at Wetherby on Boxing Day.

The Peter Marsh Chase, a Grade Two run at Haydock on January 17, is next on the agenda for the rapidly-improving eight-year-old.

“He’s come out of it in very good form, he’s fresh and well and ready to roll,” said Parkinson of his Rowland Meyrick success.

“He will more than likely go for the Peter Marsh at Haydock, he’s gone up to 145 and that’s because he’s progressive.

“He’s improving and we don’t know where the ceiling is with him.

“He’s a solid jumper and we’re not afraid to go anywhere with him, he seems suited to those flat, galloping tracks but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him around a big track like Cheltenham.

“It’s in the back of our minds, as is Aintree, anything’s possible and we’re not closing any door.

“We haven’t reached the ceiling with him yet, we’re enjoying watching him progress and taking it race by race.”
