Sir Geoff Hurst will always be indelibly linked to the phrase ‘they think it’s all over’, but new life could be breathed into Kenneth Wolstenholme’s immortal moment of sporting commentary when the two-year-old bearing the name steps onto the racecourse this spring.
The equine Theythinkitsallova was named by the 1966 World Cup-winning hat-trick hero, with the daughter of Jersey Stakes scorer Le Brivido in training with Jack Morland and set to sport the colours of the Legacy Racing Club, who, as well as Hurst, have linked up with many notable names from the wider sporting world.
Hurst said: “I was delighted to be contacted by the team at Legacy Racing with the opportunity to name a racehorse in homage to the 1966 World Cup and the famous commentary line by Kenneth Wolstenholme.
“The conversations I have had with the team have filled me with excitement for what lies ahead for Theythinkitsallova. I am proud to put my name alongside the Legacy team and look forward to the season ahead.”
Theythinkitsallova will be trained in Newmarket, but connections have their sights set on voyages further afield with the lure of French premiums enticing for Morland, who is predicting a bright juvenile campaign for a filly whose dam line traces back to 2000 Guineas hero Refuse To Bend.
Morland said: “I was immediately drawn to her balance and athleticism.
“She’s a great example of her sire — neat, powerful and light on her feet — and the pedigree gives plenty of encouragement.
“Le Brivido brings that exciting turn of foot, while the dam line adds proven Classic quality.
“She spent time with the renowned pre-trainer Jess Quinlan, and we believe Theythinkitsallova has all the ingredients to be a very enjoyable horse for her owners in the UK and across the Channel in France.”
Theythinkitsallova is the latest sporting link up for the Legacy Racing Club, who as well as with this particular filly with Hurst, have joined forces with the likes of Dion Dublin, Martin Offiah and Paul Robinson in the past.
It is hoped their latest equine acquisition can add a touch of stardust to the Club’s portfolio of talent, proving a standard-bearer for the fledgling Legacy operation and its mission to create a fun, inclusive and successful racing environment.
Racing manager Juan Oliva said: “I was delighted to source this beautiful filly privately, working closely with the breeder and Jack to secure a horse we felt could really excite Legacy and its owners.
“She stood out immediately as a yearling. She has always given the impression of a filly with both the temperament and physicality to improve with time, and we believe she has all the attributes needed to take her owners on a truly rewarding journey on the racecourse.”
