Councillors to hold defective blocks protest at Leinster House

All 37 councillors in the county have been asked to attend the protest which has been organised by defective blocks campaigners

The protest at Leinster House is due to take place on February 21

A demonstration at Leinster House led by county councillors from Donegal calling for more urgency from the Government on the delivery of the defective blocks redress scheme is to take place next week.

The protest, organised by the Mica Action Group and 100% Redress No Less, is to be held on Tuesday, February 21 after being postponed earlier this month.

All 37 councillors in the county have been written to ask them to attend the protest.

Chair of the Mica Action Group Lisa Hone said: “The event provides the opportunity for every councillor in Donegal to stand shoulder to shoulder with one another, whatever their political affiliation, to make an overt and strong statement of solidarity with the thousands of defective concrete homeowners and their families in their demand for Equality of 100% Redress.”

Paddy Diver of 100% Redress No Less said councillors “should be willing and able to go down [to Dublin] for the people that have voted them in to represent them”.

Among the issues that must be addressed urgently is the supply of modular homes for homeowners having their homes rebuilt, he said.

“The bottom line is they are going down there to vote for equality.”
