Bernard McConway is planning to climb 100 peaks across Inishowen before the end of the year
A Quigely’s Point man has undertaken the challenge of climbing 100 peaks across Inishowen before the end of the year.
Bernard McConway has embarked upon the Inishowen 100 Peaks challenge as a fundraiser for Lough Swilly RNLI, Insight Inishowen and Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.
The 26-year-old did his first climb on February 18 on Lemacrossan in Quigley’s Point and has also done a climb at Dunaff, raising more than €1,100 to date.
He is taking on the challenge for his mental and physical health, but he also wants to promote mental health and benefit others if possible.
After receiving help for mental health issues, he said he wants “to encourage others who find themselves getting overwhelmed to reach out for a bit of support”.
He has chosen the three charities as “they played a part in helping me when I was at my lowest”.
“They are very worthy charities that dedicate a lot of time to help people in distress,” he said.
“I've always liked it here in Inishowen. It has a lot of potential and a lot more to offer than a lot of people realise. This fundraiser will give me the opportunity to embrace some of the beautiful landscape that’s on offer. I want to keep everything as local as I can, local hills, local charities, local events.”
Donations to the fundraiser can be made at the Inishowen 100 Peaks page at idonate.ie.
