This year's Inish Tractor Run will be held in memory of John Byrne
This year's Inish Tractor Run will be held in memory of John Byrne.
The highly regarded Malin man sadly passed away last year.
John, who owned Bynre's Seafood, was an active member of the Malin community, playing a role in many organisations and initiatives including Malin GAA and the Inish Tractor Run.
The committee of the tractor run is urging people to help make June's event the biggest and best yet.
“John sadly left us shortly after last year’s run, where he lifted €20 from each person who entered the tent.
“He was as good as 10 eyes, as he made certain no slippery individual got in past him without paying.
“Men like that are hard to get, and we don’t believe there will ever be anyone like his kind again.
“We believe there is nothing John would want more than his year, to be the biggest year ever.
“So let’s all club together and make it massive,” the committee wrote on its Facebook page.
Local councillor Martin McDermott said dedicating this year's event was a “fitting tribute.” he said.
“John is a massive loss to the Malin community and is sorely missed by everyone in the area.
“It's a fitting tribute that all of his work is acknowledged in this way.
“On a personal level, John was my director of elections and was an important of our team and I miss him everyday, so itis nice to see how highly everyone thought of him.”
