Selector Paddy Bradley and head coach Aidan O'Rourke before the Bank of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup Round 2 match between Down and Donegal at Pairc Esler in Newry in January
Donegal GAA have confirmed that Aidan O’Rourke and Paddy Bradley will take charge of the senior footballers for Sunday's Allianz League Division 1 clash with Roscommon.
Yesterday, manager Paddy Carr resigned from the position of senior team manager after only five months at the helm and with Donegal all but relegated following their 1-17 to 0-9 loss to Mayo in Ballybofey on Sunday, must round off their league fixtures at Hyde Park on Sunday.
In a brief statement, which makes no reference to next month's Ulster SFC clash with Down in Newry, the weekend appointment was confirmed of O'Rourke, who had been head coach, and selector Bradley, who were part of Carr's backroom team.
"Aidan O’Rourke and Paddy Bradley will take charge of the team for our game in the Allianz League against Roscommon, in Hyde Park next Sunday," read this morning's statement. "Donegal GAA will be making no further comment, at this time."
"Donegal GAA wish to announce that Paddy Carr has stepped down as Senior Team manager, with immediate effect Donegal GAA would like to thank Paddy for his commitment to the job and wish him well in the future."
Carr was in charge for just eight matches in all, two losses with experimental teams and 14 debutants in the Dr McKenna Cup and then six outings in Division 1, beating Kerry and drawing with Galway.
"Following a discussion with some senior members of the Donegal football team, I want to announce that I’m stepping away from the position of Donegal team manager with immediate effect," Carr said yesterday. "I want nothing more than the best for Donegal and that will never change."
