Buncrana St Vincent De Paul seeking social housing volunteers

Information evening to held in St Mary's Hall

Buncrana St Vincent De Paul seeking social housing volunteers

An information evening about becoming a SVP social housing volunteer will be held on April 19 in St Mary’s Hall, Buncrana

While normally known for their work in helping the poor and those in need, St Vincent de Paul is also an Approved Housing Body providing social housing nationally, with homes being delivered and managed by volunteers.

To help with the running of their housing projects in Buncrana the local St Vincent de Paul branch are putting a call out to recruit new volunteers to provide support for their housing in the town.

Each social housing scheme provided by the Society is managed and serviced at a local level by dedicated SVP volunteers.

There are currently 29 one and two bed SVP properties across the area, providing much needed housing at Pillar Park, Cockhill and Main Street, Buncrana.

This work is very different from St Vincent De Paul Home Visitation volunteer work and requires people with a certain skillset to support the local Conferences with their great housing work.

For the social housing volunteer roles, the Society in Buncrana say that experience and knowledge in the areas of architecture, engineering, surveying, health & safety, social work /social care would be a particularly good fit and an advantage in volunteering with us.

For the volunteer positions, St Vincent De Paul Buncrana say people would be required to give approximately three hours of their time a week and attend various meetings locally and regionally with support from other volunteers.

To make initial enquiries about the volunteer positions, email lisa.hitchen@svp.ie.

Residents are invited to attend an information evening in St Mary’s Hall Buncrana on Wednesday, April 19 at 7.30pm where you can find out more about volunteering to support SVP social housing in Buncrana.
