Christopher Mc Dermott netted two goals for Burt against Carndonagh
Burt came away with an impressive 2-19 to 1-9 victory over Carndonagh in Foden on Friday night in the Donegal SHC.
Carndonagh 1-9 Burt 2-19
Even though Burt ran out as comprehensive winners, the youthful home team kept them close for long periods of the game.
The sides were level at halftime and Burt led by just three points after 47 minutes, before a late salvo transformed the scoreboard.
It was very even for all of the first half with Luke White for Carn and Liam McKinney of Burt impressing from dead balls. Burt opened the scoring with points from Liam Og McKinney (2), Conor Gartland and Ardal McDermott, while Luke White’s got Carn going.
A great Cian Doherty point for Carn was followed by a Carn penalty awarded for a foul on Daire Tully, which Luke White despatched to the net to put Carn into the lead at 1-3 to 0-5 after 15 minutes.
Both teams kept knocking over the scores and both free-takers showed their abilities before a Michael Mccarron point from the left sideline gave Carn a 1-7 to 0-8 lead with three minutes left in the half.
The visitors finished the stronger with points from Gartland and McKinney to leave the scores level at 1-7 to 0-10 at the break.
Carn would have hoped for a quick start to the second half, but neither team took control early, and again White and McKinney points were the main scorers.
Burt was leading 0-15 to 1-9 after 47 minutes when a speculative shot from sub Christopher McDermott dropped in off the far post and into the net to give them the breathing space they needed.
They kicked on from there with further points from Gartland, Gallagher and McKinney and another McDermott goal led to a final score of 2-19 to 1-9.
Carn had five players making their championship debuts with Michael Noone, Michael McCarron, Daire Tully and Ben McDaid just out of minors and Paul Kelly also making his Senior championship bow, so they have plenty to be hopeful about.
