Gardai have issued a plea after detecting a motorcyclist speeding while accompanied by a passenger.

The motorcyclist with the pillion passenger was clocked at 159km/h by the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit.

The N13 road in the Newtowncunningham area, where the motorcyclist was detected, is governed by a speed limit of 100km/h.

“We ask all motorists to slow down especially as poor weather conditions are forecast for later today,” a Garda spokesperson said.

A status yellow weather alert is in place for scattered thunderstorms until 8pm this evening.

Met Eireann warn that spot flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions will be likely.
