Woman (50s) killed after Moville collision

The woman in her 50s was the driver of a car which was involved in a fatal road traffic accident with a lorry in Moville on Friday morning

A woman in her 50s has died following a collision between a lorry and a car in Moville on Friday morning.

The woman, the driver of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time after the crash, which occurred at around 8am.

She is the fifth person to die on Donegal's roads in 2023.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision on the R238.

The lorry driver, a male in his 50s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

Gardai remain at the scene. The R238 Muff-Moville road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Traffic diversions are in place on the R238 between Redcastle and Moville.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding this incident, particularly any road users with camera footage who were travelling the Muff/Moville road at the time of the incident is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
